John Lennon, o pilar inspirador da minha vida, faria 77 anos se Mark Chapman não lhe tivesse tirado a vida na noite de 8 de dezembro de 1981, em frente ao seu apartamento no edifício Dakota, em Nova Iorque.
O assassinato de John Lennon foi o primeiro evento a marcar-me profundamente, era demasiado criança para ouvir adultos falarem do que tinha acontecido, e, para mim um homem que cantava músicas e que defendia a paz ter sido assassinado por não concordarem com ele, fez muita confusão e deixou-me marcas.
Foi algo que me deixou a pensar durante anos e que sinceramente, ainda me põe a pensar, mas já com análise e conclusões diferentes.
Sempre ouvi os Beatles em casa, no gira discos, na rádio, na televisão, depois nos cds, agora no streaming, no youtube, onde quer que se esteja, hoje em dia podemos ouvir as músicas que queremos. Antes não era bem assim, talvez por isso dávamos mais valor aos artistas que gostávamos, não os ouviamos quando queriamos, mas sim quando era possível.
Não consigo imaginar como seria a minha vida e a do Mundo se os Beatles não tivessem existido, se John Lennon não tivesse aquela ideia de transformar a banda com que andava em algo diferente e que para tal viu e sentiu que só iria conseguir se Paul McCartney se juntasse à banda. E Paul trouxe com ele George Harrison e depois Paul e John foram buscar Ringo Starr, um excelente baterista que iria completar a visão de John e Paul para esta banda, The Beatles.
A minha vida, a minha personalidade, seriam completamente diferentes e o Mundo seria um lugar menos brilhante e ousado. Lennon deu a cara por uma mudança de mentalidade, comportamento e visão que talvez hoje em dia as pessoas não dêem o devido valor e importância. E deveriam dar. E sentir.
Quer seria de nós se não tivesses existido, John?
Pobres, muito pobres de espírito e de pensamento.
Falavas da paz, defendias a paz, e eras criticado por isso. Não sei porquê, mas continuas tão atual como nos tempos em que erguias a voz contra o Vietname e todas as guerras. Quem diria? Gerações depois e continuamos a precisar de vozes que nos inspirem a defender e a lutar pela paz. Não soubemos aprender. Talvez porque foste embora cedo demais. Sim, és um daqueles casos em que foste embora antes do tempo. O homem para além deste tempo que foi embora antes do tempo.
O teu ativismo político foi decisivo para a minha vontade em não ter medo nem receio de defender as causas em que acreditava e acredito. A tua ousadia e irreverência inspiraram-me e ter pensamento livre e a defender as minhas convicções. A tua mente inspirou-me de que podem existir homens diferentes da maioria com que me cruzo diariamente.
Talvez possa um dia, quem sabe, finalmente conversar contigo sobre como podemos mudar o Mundo.

John Lennon, the inspirational pillar of my life, would have been 77 years if Mark Chapman had not taken his life on the night of December 8, 1981, in front of his apartment in the Dakota building in New York.
The murder of John Lennon was the first event to mark me deeply, it was too young to hear adults talk about what had happened, and for me a man who sang songs and who advocated the peace being murdered for not agreeing with him, made a lot of confusion and left me marks.
It was something that left me thinking for years and that sincerely, it still makes me think, but with different analysis and conclusions.
I've always heard the Beatles at home, on recordings, on radio, on television, then on CDs, now streaming, on youtube, wherever you are, nowadays we can listen to the songs we want. Before, it was not quite like that, maybe that's why we gave more value to the artists we liked, we did not listen to them when we wanted, but when it was possible.
I can not imagine what my life would be like if the Beatles had not existed if John Lennon did not have that idea of turning the band into something different and he felt that he would only get Paul McCartney joined the band. And Paul brought with him George Harrison and then Paul and John went to get Ringo Starr, an excellent drummer who would complete the vision of John and Paul for this band, The Beatles.
My life, my personality, would be completely different and the World would be a less bright and daring place. Lennon took a turn for a change of mentality, behavior and vision that perhaps today people do not give the due value and importance. And they should. And feel.
Would it be us if you had not, John?
Poor, very poor in spirit and thought.
You spoke of peace, you defended peace, and you were criticized for it. I do not know why, but you remain as current as in the days when you raised your voice against Vietnam and all wars. Who would say? Generations later and we still need voices that inspire us to defend and fight for peace. We did not know how to learn. Maybe because you left too soon. Yes, you're one of those cases where you left early. Man beyond this time that was gone ahead of time.
Your political activism was decisive for my determination not to be afraid or fearful of defending the causes in which I believed and believed. Your boldness and irreverence have inspired me and have free thought and defend my convictions. Your mind has inspired me that there may be men different from the majority I meet daily.
Maybe someday, maybe we'll finally talk to you about how we can change the world.
